A Sentence a Chapter
by Kathryne Kennedy

Hello Tammie and all the NOR readers! It’s great to be back here today!

I thought this was an interesting way to share a bit about my upcoming release when I heard about it from another writer. Instead of quoting an excerpt from THE LORD OF ILLUSION, I’d like to share one sentence from each chapter with you all. I hope you enjoy the sentences I have chosen. I avoided any spoilers, and I hope they give you an idea of the magic you can expect in the book.

Chapter One:

Drystan squared his shoulders, feeling the weight of his task, wondering why he had been chosen for it.

Chapter Two:

Living at Dreamhame Palace taught Camille to never trust in appearances.

Chapter Three:

Now he had rescued his beloved, and she not only refused to thank him and fall into his arms with gratitude, but stood there pointing his gun at him with every intention of killing him on the spot.

Chapter Four:

She feared she would enjoy the feel of him.

Chapter Five:

“Others may define us by our circumstances, but in truth we are all equal as human beings.”

Chapter Six:

At first she could not be sure his mouth had even touched hers, for it felt as gentle as if one of the petals dancing on the wind had alighted on her lips.

Chapter Seven:

The bindings around his wrist and ankles surprised him most of all.

Chapter Eight:

“A human’s life is insignificant to them in their grand schemes—of which we have no inkling whatsoever.”

Chapter Nine:

“Quickly, my love, before my unpredictable magic fades and we are lost to winter once again.”

Chapter Ten:

Tiny flowers had opened in the moss at their feet, each blossom containing a small spark of luminescence, the whole of them glittering like thousands of diamonds.

Chapter Eleven:

But Drystan did not have time to wonder about it, for the ground rushed at them too quickly, and he did not have any idea how to land a dragon.

Chapter Twelve:

“We know we miscalculated the importance of the scepters.”

Chapter Thirteen:

“If I love you, you will die.”

Chapter Fourteen:

She had fallen asleep on a bed of clouds, Drystan reciting poetry in her ear, and wondered that his magic had brought them both to her chamber.

Chapter Fifteen:

The price of using her gift would be her very soul.

Chapter Sixteen:

Camille kept her eyes fixed on Drystan, the prismatic lights playing across his smooth skin, as she lost her memory of him.

Chapter Seventeen:

If naught else, he had learned to trust in Camille’s love for him.

I have to wonder if these are the same sentences you might have chosen. Are there any that particularly appeal to you? That make you wonder what that chapter might be about? I would love to hear from you!

My Magical Best,

Kathryne

THE LORD OF ILLUSION BY KATHRYNE KENNEDY—IN STORES FEBRUARY 2012

He'll do anything to save her...

Rebel Lord Drystan Hawkes dreams of fighting for England's freedom from the endless evils of the Elven Lords. He gets his chance when he finds a clue to opening the magic portal to Elfhame, and he must race to find the slave girl who holds the key to the mystery. But even as Drystan rescues Camille Ashton from Dreamhame Palace, it becomes unclear exactly who is saving whom.

For the fate of humankind lies with Camille...

Enslaved for years in a realm where illusion and glamour reign, Camille has learned to trust nothing and no one. But she's truly spellbound when she meets Drystan--a man different from any she's ever known, and the force of their passion may yet be strong enough to banish the Elven Lords from this world forever.

Every one of them makes me want to know more. "If I love you, you will die" and "as she lost her memory of him" are so poignant! I can't wait for this third story and no books have taken me away as much as these!

I thought that was a great idea to share one sentence from each chapter. I really loved this one: "Now he had rescued his beloved, and she not only refused to thank him and fall into his arms with gratitude, but stood there pointing his gun at him with every intention of killing him on the spot." It's got me really interested in seeing what prompted her to want to kill him. I can't wait to find out.

I thought chapter six, about him kissing her, only to be followed by chapter 7, where he's all tied up was kinda funny, and could maybe get a little kinky, lol

Thanks for the contest. I definitely want to see how chapter 6 and 7 turn out :-)

I really liked having a sentence from each chapter. I admit it- I'm intrigued and I want to read this now! The whole concept of a fantasy quest book with an actual steamy romance in it instead of just a few romantic moments sounds great! I am adding this book to my TBR list. Thanks so much for the chance to win. Good luck with your new release!

OOH! I like Chapter 5 and 16. I love this idea. 1) It's easier to read than a full excerpt. 2) It gives a more broad glimpse at the book. Very cool.
