Is On-line Dating Destroying Romance?
by Kat Martin
Back when I was first dating, men and women talked, went to dinner, went to a show. We took our time getting to know each other. Then the trend began to change and the whole objective of dating became for the guy to get the woman in bed.
Conquest was everything. And sometimes women played the same game. Romance seemed to be fading, the chance to know someone’s inner thoughts and dreams before hoping into bed was drifting away.
Today the dating scene has changed again and oddly enough, computer dating may actually be the salvation of romance. People meet on-line, chat on line, text on their cell phones. Sometimes they “date” for months without actually meeting.
There are pros and cons to this new way of meeting people, but personally, I think getting to know someone slowly, savoring those little secrets you discover about each other over the weeks and months, can lead to a far more lasting relationship. The percentage of people meeting through on-line dating is growing and so is the number of marriages between people who have met via the computer.
So even though I’m a strong supporter of old-fashioned romance, I think there’s a place for on-line dating. The most important thing is finding out what the person is really like, developing a trust that is enduring.
Still, drinking champagne together, dancing till dawn, walking hand-in-hand on the beach, those things are the fun, heart-fluttering part of dating. Of course, there may also be the chance meeting that leads to falling in love.
In HOT RAIN, one of my favorites, just being re-issued in January, Allie Parker is abducted by drug smugglers, who hold her prison aboard their yacht headed for Mexico. Fortunately for Allie, gorgeous and sexy Jake Dawson is also aboard, and Jake is one of the good guys--an undercover ATF agent. The problem is Allie doesn’t know it and Jake can’t break his cover or both of them are likely to wind up dead.
It’s a fun book with plenty of action and romance--none of which takes place behind a computer! If you haven’t read HOT RAIN, I hope you’ll give it a try and that you enjoy. Warmest wishes, Kat

I have to say that on-line dating isn't destroying romance because I met my husband on Match.com. I was cautious about the whole on-line thing due to all the horror stories that you hear about people getting killed or attacked after meeting someone they talked to on-line. When I met my husband, I couldn't have been happier. From that first meeting, we saw each other every weekend and I wouldn't have met my best friend any other way since he originally lived 100 miles away. There are pros and cons but it worked well for me.

While I am currently lacking in the romance department. I do not think on line dating is destroying it. Just meeting someone on line does not change anything other than how you meet. There are just as many opportunities for romance to come when you finally meet face to face.
Looking forward to reading your book!!

It's not for me but I wouldn't think non-line dating is destroying romance. I'd love to read Hot Rain. Thanks for the chance Kat.

I can't say, since I met my husband in high school. I've never tried online dating. Since we're separeted, I just hope we work things out before it reaches that point. It doesn't sound very romantic, but that's my opinion.

I started to date my husband when I was 17 so I don't really know, and he was hardly romantic to this day I still have to tell him stuff like my eye color and that I love snowy days.
I don't think it is online dating though, I think its just people they stopped trying what happened to guys writing love poems and grand gestures, or simple things like picking a flower because it made him think of you. No all guys have to do is pull out their credit card and pay for everything with very little thought put into it/ And women no longer play hard to get. Since when did one night hookups become romantic!! I think people quit trying I think we just go through life with blind eyes not seeing the small things anymore including each other. :( sorry I'm rambling... I tend to do that so I'll just end with I think people stop trying for happy ever after and now just work for happy right now.

My sister has met some guys online that seemed really nice, but once it came to face to face... they were jerks. Yet on the other hand... I have had friends find some great guys online... I just know that I am not the type to look online for a guy...

Hi Kat, I just started dating someone I met online. It is fun and we talk all the time so when I met him I felt like I already knew him. christina_92@
I don't think that online dating is destroying romance, because at some point you do have to meet. I think it's actually saving some people from a number of "bad dates".

I don't think that online dating is destroying romance, I just think it lets you get to know the person a little before you "actually" meet them. I really love the sound of your book! I love the cover also. Thank you for your thoughts on online dating!

Times are changing and online dating is becoming more and more popular. Many people I know found their spouse through online dating so it isn't all bad. But I am glad that I found my hubby years before this all started.
Cover of your book is great! Sounds like a great read.
books4me67@....
I think that it is so much easier to lie online (although I am sure there are people who don't have any problem lying face to face either) so I would be leery of meeting someone that way. I think that romance will flourish irregardless...as long as women demand it (-:
I think online dating kinda helps people who aren't very social versus those who'd rather go out and find that special someone. I don't know that it's necessarily destroying romance, but it's definitely scarier since you never know who you're gonna get until you meet them in person.
yadkny@
Dependent upon the people and the situation online dating could actually enhance the romance. You might get a better and a deeper understanding of the other person and their wants and likes, if you are NOT face to face. Thanks for the post. lisagk@
GAH KAT, THIS SOOOUNDS SOOOOO GOOD! NOT INTERESTED IN MEN AS TRYING TO GIVE AWAY SCROOGE

I think times are changing and people are changing. Life is not what it used to be.

The world today has changed since I was dating. It isn't as safe as it used to be. When people talk on the computer, a lot of times they like to stretch the truth a bit, which can be bad for the other party, especially when one of them is telling the truth. I've seen it with my own eyes in a chat room. When you meet a person face-to-face, you can see the expression in their eyes, which says a lot about their soul. There's nothing like human contact that you can make a comparison with. By that I mean a brief touch of their arm in conversation, for example. Hearing the sound of their voice and not doing it over the phone or over the computer is so different and special. Just doing somethng as a couple as opposed to sitting alone and relying on a phone call or waiting to see them or talk to them over the computer is the way it should be. Going on line should be used only after a relationship is established and you want to leave notes for each other, or want to talk when you can't be together - not as a replacement. For those that rely on it, I say more power to them, and good luck, but I want a real person to meet and get to know. Probe211
I've only known one person to meet someone online and it was a total disaster. They had already made marriage plans (dress bought etc.) when someone was smart enough to research the guy futher - turned out to be a pediphile (OMG). So in a way the computer got her into trouble and thankfully back out. I'm with you, give me the old fashioned way. I've heard lots of great things about this book!

With people being so busy these days, sometimes meeting others on-line is the only way to do it. I don't think it's destroying dating, it's just adding another way to do it.

Some people have obstacles, such as disability, where on-line dating helps them get to know someone first. Great Trailer!

Ifboth parties are honest it can help people meet where otherwise thy might not. I know several couples who met thru online dating & are now married.

I think people should try what ever works for them! Nothing ventured, nothing gained :) this books sound hot and fun sstogner1
I'm an old fashioned girl too, but times have changed, people don't work the standard 9-5 anymore, so it does have it's advantages. I think it also gives some people the opportunity to lie about themselves too. I'm glad I am happily married.

I know a few couples who meet on line and married.

Hello Kat,
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to spend with Us at Night Owl Reviews.
I very much enjoyed your post, "Is On-line Dating Destroying Romance?". In my experience, on-line dating is ABSOLUTELY Fantastic!!! You guessed it, I met my Wonderful Husband on-line. This was my second marriage, I was older, established....but I have to say that I chatted more with him, about anything & everything, for hour after hour, day after day....then I did with my first husband that I met the "traditional" way. I knew more about my current Husband; his job, family & grown children, likes, dislikes, hobbies, previous marriage & especially what we were both looking for long-term. That was soooooo much more then I ever found out about my 1st Husband the tradtional way.
Finding a Wonderful, Caring Husband that truly Loves Me for Me on-line worked out better than I ever could have expected, but it may not be for everyone, as I mentioned, this is just my experience.
Your re-issued Romance Book with it's twists of action, "In HOT RAIN", sounds like a really good read, your Cover Art is very eye-cathing & your Book Trailor was done so well, it all makes a Reader want to pick up your Book & say, "I have to Read this book".
I would very much appreciate a chance to be entered into your giveaway to win a print copy of "Hot Rain". Thank You.
Take Care & Have a Great Weekend,

Absolutely not! I know 2 couples who met thru computer dating and they both have great marriages. It doesn't hurt to be proactive if you want a partner in life and you aren't having any luck just waiting for someone to show up.
Of course, one should use common sense and be safe.
Thanks for the chance to win your book. I'm a fan.

Hot Rain! Sounds interesting, I think online dating is just a different direction for romance. But nothing beats that accidental meeting and then falling for each other.Kretch1@
