Why I Love to Write by Amelia Grey

Good Morning! Thank you for having me at Night Owl Reviews to talk about my latest Regency Romance A Gentleman Never Tells, and to talk about why I love to write.

My first book was published in 1990 and, even though that was a few years ago, my love for writing hasn’t changed. I still have the same enthusiasm to write that I had when I sat down to pen my first romance. Over the past two decades, I've steadily published books in a business that is ever changing--maybe more so in the last few years than in all previous years because of the eBook phenomenon that has made publishing, buying, and reading easier than ever. Why do I continue to write--because I love it! I have a passion for romance stories and all the good things women enjoy reading about; that glance across the crowded room, the first kiss, the tender caress, that scowling look that tells other men, “She’s mine, don’t touch her.” And of course, I love that happy-ever-after ending.

I think it must be the art of romance that I find so fascinating. Take a little realism, mix it with a strong, handsome man who makes my heart melt, and I’m ready to start a brand new book. I enjoy going to my office to dream up the stories my readers can't wait to read. I look forward to working and creating characters that come to life. I love the plotting, the sitting back to look out the window, all while thinking, "What if?"

All this comes naturally to me and I embrace it. Sometimes late in the afternoons, I will get up and go sit on my balcony and watch the water and the boats go by. I find it quite relaxing and it frees my mind after a long morning of writing. At the end of the day, I'm happy to have made page progress, and even more excited when the following day's scenes come to me, and I can't wait to write them. I want to write books I love so my readers will love them.

So with that idea in mind, the first thing I did in A Gentleman Never Tells with Lady Gabrielle and Lord Brentwood was place them in a situation they didn’t want to be in and then watch them cleverly worm their way out. Lord Brentwood is caught in Hyde Park at daybreak kissing Lady Gabrielle, who happens to be another man’s fiancĂ©, and the daughter of a powerful duke. And if that wasn’t enough trouble for the Viscount to be in the middle of, he lost his mother’s dog, too.

Lady Gabrielle is dependable, sensible, and obedient. That’s why she had accepted the practical, unemotional marriage her formidable father had arranged for her. That’s what those of her kind did—or so she had always believed until early one morning, when her defenses were down, she threw all of her upbringing away for the chance to spend a few passionate moments in the arms of a handsome stranger.

But kissing the stranger didn’t free Lady Gabrielle. She only thwarted the shackles of one arranged betrothal to immediately find herself stuck in yet another forced engagement. But, the strong-willed lady isn’t going to give up her freedom so easily. She has plans that her father and Lord Brentwood don’t know about and scandal and mishaps becomes the order of the day as they search for London’s notorious dog thief.

I’m ready to start a new book, and I’m going to ask for a little help from you to help me get started. What kind of romances do you enjoy the best? The ones where the hero sweeps the heroine off her feet? Or the ones where he's got to work a bit to get the feisty heroine to yield to his charms? Let me know for a chance to win one of two copies of A Gentleman Never Tells.

A Gentleman Never Tells sounds like a fantastic book, can't wait to read it.
I love the stories where the hero's got to work a bit to get the feisty heroine to yield to his charms, those are the most fun.

Thanks for visiting. As to your question, the books I love are character driven. There isn't a particular plot or setting that draws me in. But memorable, fleshed-out characters--I'm there!

I love Amelia's A Rogue's Dynasty series and can't wait to read A Gentleman Never Tells!

What a great idea of having a stolen kiss as an inspiration for this story! I can't wait to find out where that kiss leads.

The ones where he's got to work a bit to get the feisty heroine to yield to his charms is always a favorite of mine ~ especially if there is humor involved.
